Shakeh Avanessian, L.Ac.

Shakeh Avanessian received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from California State University of Los Angeles, in 1994. She worked as a laboratory technician for several years in different establishments, and then moved on to project management in clinical trials.

Thanks to a severe leg pain, she discovered acupuncture treatments. The treatments not only helped ease her pain, but sparked a great interest in the Traditional Asian Medicine. With the encouragement of her family, Shakeh returned to school and completed a four year professional program in acupuncture and herbal medicine at Emperor's College of Oriental Medicine in Santa Monica, California. She became a California Board Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist in 2006, and immediately established her practice at Riverside Health Center. Shakeh is also a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner.

Today, after 13 years at the same location, she treats many pain management cases with acupuncture and herbal therapies. She addresses physiological imbalances utilizing her knowledge of not only Traditional Asian Medicine but also Functional Medicine, which further investigates the underlying causes of disorders. In addition, she offers nutritional counseling to achieve a healthier and more balanced life style.

Besides spending time with family and friends, Shakeh's greatest joys in life are reading books and riding her bicycle in the beautiful State of California with her husband of 26 years.

Philosophy

My philosophy is to achieve a harmonious and holistic lifestyle, to promote optimal vitality. In modern societies, we are conditioned to equate our bodies to machines. However, I prefer to compare the human body to a garden. And for a garden to flourish, we must take the time to nourish its roots and foundation in order to rejuvenate and sustain good essence.
